HYDERABAD, Feb 23: Sindh Auqaf and Ushr and Religious and Minority Affairs Minister Dr Irfan Gul Magsi on Monday conducted an inquiry into an incident which took place in the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences.

He had been appointed the inquiry officer by Sindh Chief Minister Ali Mohammad Mahar. The minister recorded statements of first year MBBS student Kavita, her father, Dr Ravchand, Amir Raza Memon and his father, Bashir Memon, and also obtained copies of letters, issued by the LUMHS management.

He assured the girl and her family that justice would be provided to them. Dr Magsi would submit his report to the chief minister. The girl told the minister that she was coming from canteen when Amir Raza tried to talk to her and caught her wrist. She said she got her hand freed and entered the university as some boys had intervened in the matter.

She demanded protection and action against the boy. Her father also appealed to the minister to provide his daughter with protection and ensure justice. He told the minister that the boy had threatened that he would misbehave with her.

It was learnt that Bashir Memon produced his son before the minister at his residence where his statement was recorded on oath. The boy said he was beaten by an activist of a political party and showed is injured finger to the minister.

He claimed that he and the girl were coming from the canteen. He said he had no malafide intention against the girl. He told the minister that the girl's cousin had spotted him talking to her which had annoyed him. He said her cousin had created the whole episode and he had brought the activist who assaulted him.

The minister was informed by the vice-chancellor of the university that admission of the boy had been suspended and his own inquiry committee was also probing the matter. The director of the students affairs, Prof Ali Gohar Shah, also recorded his statement to the minister.
