ISLAMABAD, Feb 19: Chief Commissioner of Islamabad Junaid Iqbal Chaudhry finalized the security plan for the month of Muharram during a meeting in his office on Thursday.

Deputy Commissioner Tariq Mehmood Pirzada said the ICT administration had made 'foolproof' security arrangements for protection of mosques, Imambargahs and worship places.

He said a 'control room' had been established in the office of Additional Deputy Commissioner-General (ADC-G) where any incident could be reported on telephone no. 051-9261504.

Mr Pirzada said section 144 had already been enforced in the city which prohibited use of cassette players for making objectionable/sectarian-related speeches, causing nuisance and hurting the feelings of other sects, displaying, carrying and exhibiting fire arms as a show of force, distribution of objectionable hand-bills, pamphlets, wall chalking, writing slogans and affixing posters on the walls.

He said all the departments concerned and agencies had been activated and a contingency plan along with duty rosters for the officials required for these duties during the period have been issued.

He said to maintain law and order situation during Muharram the meetings of 'peace committees' were held and the matters were discussed in detail. Mr Pirzada said a meeting with 'Ulema' was also held to ensure sectarian harmony and peace during Muharram.

"The Ulema assured that they would fully cooperate with the administration. They also agreed to follow the 'code of conduct' prepared by the Auqaf Directorate of Islamabad which was provided to them and they promised to observe the same in letter and spirit," the deputy commissioner said.

He also informed the meeting that Iesco, the Capital Development Authority (CDA), fire brigade, civil defence and health department officials had been asked to remain on high alert to meet any emergency situation. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Islamabad Shahid Nadeem Baloch said the police had adopted adequate measures to ensure peace during Muharram.
