PESHAWAR, Feb 6: The Peshawar High Court on Friday granted bail to a former inspector of Frontier Reserve Police (FRP) arrested on the charge of misappropriation of funds.

Justice Qaim Jan Khan directed that the accused-petitioner, Umer Daraz, should be released after furnishing two sureties of Rs 200,000 each. The petitioner was arrested more than a month ago after a case was registered against him by the Anti Corruption Establishment.

The petitioner was accused of misusing his office and misappropriating funds of the FRP. During pendency of the case he was first demoted to the rank of head-constable and later on he was dismissed from service.

Advocate Sikander Khan appeared for the petitioner and argued that he was neither the accountant nor the drawing and disbursement officer of FRP. He contended that he was not functioning on a position which could helped him in misappropriating the said funds.

He contended that the investigation agency had yet to complete investigation in this case following which it could be ascertained who was the real culprit. He added that he was charged alone in this case whereas the concerned officials were not mentioned in the case.
