LAHORE, Aug 29: Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi said on Friday all political issues would be resolved amicably through talks and the present democratic system come up to the people’s expectations.

He was talking to US Ambassador Nancy Powell who called on him at the Chief Minister’s House here.

The chief minister said the present political structure stood on solid grounds and the country’s image had enhanced at the international fora. Pakistan had strengthened economically as a result of the reforms introduced by the president, creating better opportunities for investment, he said.

He said his government was implementing a comprehensive programme regarding acceleration of the development process, elimination of poverty and improvement in the education system.

He said steps were being taken to improve the lot of farmers. The government would give 12.50 acres each to landless tillers. The agriculture sector was being modernized through corporate farming. Similarly, he said, shelterless people would be given five-marla plots and loans for the construction of houses.

The American ambassador said both the countries had an understanding with regard to the efforts for world peace. And more opportunities for cooperation between them in technical and trade fields would be created, she said.
