PESHAWAR, Jan 22: The NWFP directorate of Social Welfare has set up a display centre to promote and display the handicrafts made by the skilled women of the province's vocational centres.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the centre here on Wednesday, minister of social welfare Hafiz Hashmat said that the MMA government is taking practical steps to protect women's rights.

"MMA government has announced that it would construct a university and medical college exclusively for women. It has allocated Rs 100 million in the current financial year for primary education for girls,", he said.

"The MMA government will also provide for the vocational training of women and would distribute 2000 sewing machines to needy women to make them financially independent", Mr Hashmat said.

He said that allegations have often been made against the MMA government that it was working for the Talibanisation of the province, which was a baseless allegation, because the MMA government is not opposed to women's development and all those rights which the women were bestowed upon by Islam would be ensured by the MMA government.

Director social welfare, Zarina Imdad said that the display centre would be the first of its kind which will give exposure to the handicrafts of skilled women. Exhibition of the handmade handicrafts would be held by the directorate after every three months.
