HYDERABAD, Jan 20: Latifabad Taluka Nazim Abdul Jabbar Khan has said the Zakat fund is not being distributed among deserving people. In a press statement issued here on Monday , he said the people were approaching his office every day complaining about the nonpayment of Zakat money to them.

He demanded that distribution of the Zakat fund should be made transparent and there should be no political interference. A monitoring system should be put in place to ensure the provision of the fund to the deserving people, he further said.

He said the Sindh chief minister and the minister for Zakat and Ushr should look into the matter. Meanwhile, the taluka officer, regulation, Latifabad, Zafar Baig Mughal, asked owners and those who have been allotted bungalows to apply for permission for maintaining lawns.

He also asked those who had constructed boundaries around their lawns instead of specified four feet grill to demolish the boundaries. He said action would be taken against the violators under the Anti-Encroachment Act, 1975.

POLIO WALK: A large number of schoolchildren, social activists, doctors, paramedical staff and health workers held a walk from the Hyderabad Gymkhana to the press club to create awareness among the people about polio.

Speaking on the occasion, MPA Aslam Pervez, EDO, health, Dr Agha Tariq, EDO, education, Manzoor Bhutto, and others appealed to the people to vaccinate their children against polio.

A three-day anti-polio campaign is being launched from Jan 20 in which more than 600,000 children will be administered polio drops. Mr Tariq said parents and elected representatives should cooperate with health teams to ensure that every child up to five years of age was administered polio drops.

ACTING VC: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad on Monday appointed Dr Bashir Ahmad Shaikh as the acting vice-chancellor of the Sindh Agriculture University, Tando Jam.

The incumbent vice-chancellor, Dr Bashir Ahmad Chandio, left for Saudi Arabia on Monday to perform Haj. Meanwhile, a meeting of the university syndicate scheduled for Monday could not be held for lack of quorum.
