PESHAWAR, Jan 20: Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) has demanded of the government to lift ban on the students' union activities at the colleges and universities so that the students could strive for the attainment of their rights from a proper forum , said a press release issued here on Tuesday.

The demand was made at a meeting of the provincial council of the Islami Jamiat Talaba, held under its provincial chief Shahab Hussain on Tuesday.

It also expressed concern over the working of the committee formed by the government to review the ban on student unions and demanded to speed up its working. Lack of student unions had been the main cause of the prevalent unrest among the students because of the creation of the new problems, it said.

The meeting also said non-existence of student unions had caused wide rifts among the students on ethnic and regional lines, which was eating into the very fabric of education at the colleges and universities.
