PESHAWAR, Jan 20: The city government has imposed the Section 144 along the railway tracks, near government offices and residential areas of the city to discourage sale and purchase of sacrificial animals in the areas.

Speaking at a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club here on Tuesday Town-I Nazim Haroon Bilour said that movement of animals outside the district had been restricted to control the price of sacrificial animals till Eidul Azha.

He said that the city government had directed contractors to shift their cattle from the residential areas of the city to Ring Road, immediately and display price lists.

He said that these mea-sures had been adopted to keep the city clean and control prices of sacrificial animals. He said that the district government would not allow herdsmen to set up cattle markets along the main railway track and offices.

He said that the city government imposed section 144 after receiving complaints from the general public, requesting to remove herds from the residential areas of the city.

Responding to a question Mr Bilour said that despite financial constraints the town administration would ensure payment of salaries to all employees before Eid-ul-Azha.

He said that the town administration had requested the provincial government to increase funds of the tehsil administration and give representation to four town councils in the local government commission, but action had not been taken in this regard. He said that they requested the National Reconstruction Bureau to appoint a retired judge of the High Court as chairman of the commission.
