Published January 20, 2004

KARACHI, Jan 19: An alleged bandit was shot dead in what the police claimed to be an encounter in Orangi Town on Monday. According to them, during a snap checking a police party signalled three persons on motorcycles to stop, but they tried to flee as they shot at the law-enforcement personnel.

The police said two suspected bandits managed to escape and took refuge in a house while the third, identified as Ejaz, was arrested. The police tried to flush out the two suspects but they opened fire at them.

The police returned the fire, killing a suspect identified as Sohail, 25. However, his accomplice managed to escape. The police shifted the body of Sohail to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
