'Dead' man comes back to life

Published January 19, 2004

NEW DELHI, Jan 18: A man declared "dead" by doctors returned to life after being kept for some hours in a hospital mortuary in the northern Indian state of Haryana, a report said on Sunday.

The man was brought into the hospital by the police after they found him lying injured on the road on Saturday, the United News of India (UNI) news agency said.

Doctors who examined the man declared him "dead on arrival" and dispatched the "body" to the hospital morgue after handing over the required certificates to the police, the report said.

The man, however, began to move some time later to the shock of mortuary attendants, who rushed him back to the ward. Attending doctors immediately admitted him into the emergency room and issued a fresh report to the police, the agency said.-AFP
