PESHAWAR, Jan 18: Two juvenile sisters have been in prison for the last four months on drug pushing charges without the presentation of charge-sheet against them in the court.

The girls, Naseema, 12, and Rubina, 14, were allegedly trapped byan international drug traffickers gang operating from Bara. Their father and brother were killed by their enemies a few months ago, following which they became responsible for earning livelihood for their family.

The police are yet to present a charge-sheet against them in the court. Their bail petition is pending before additional district and sessions judge Sabir Khan.

A organization, the Voice of Prisoners, has filed their bail petition, praying that they should be released as they were minor and unaware of the presence of contraband in the car.

"Under Section 4(6) of the Juvenile Justice System Ordinance, 2000,the juvenile court has to conclude trial of an offender within four months," said the chairman of the organization, Noor Alam Khan.

West Cant police officials claimed that on Oct 13, 2003, they had cordoned off the road near the PAF Chowk on the basis of a tip about smuggling of contraband in a Suzuki vehicle (LOG-6373). When the vehicle was stopped, the driver, Fida Khan, escaped but the two girls in it were arrested.

The police seized 30kg of charas and registered an FIR against the girls under Section 9 of the Control of Narcotics Substance Act. The accused girls are residents of Akhunabad No.4. Their mother claimed that they were asked by the smugglers to sit in the vehicle for smuggling cloth and other small items to Punjab and offered Rs2,000 per trip.
