KARACHI, Jan 4: The old and faulty sewerage system in North Karachi has almost collapsed due to improved water supply to the area from Hub Dam and Indus river sources.

According to city's sewerage department insiders, water supply to North Karachi town has increased considerably. The water was being supplied to the town, both from the system hooked to Indus river and from Hub system, a KWSB source told APP on Sunday.

The recently-laid sewage lines, were of poor quality and unable to sustain the increased pressure, as a result many of the city roads were flooded by filthy water, the KWSB official said, claiming that as compared to almost no supply till July last, sufficient water was now available to the city residents. The funds available for sewerage system were not being utilized judiciously, which was affecting maintenance of sewerage system, the source alleged.-APP
