Published January 2, 2004

ATTOCK, Jan 1: The personnel of some secret agencies arrested Dr Inamullah Khan, a child specialist, from his residence at People's Colony here on Thursday.

The brother of the doctor, Dr Attaullah Khan, told newsmen that at least 30 personnel of different agencies forcibly entered the house of his brother without showing any search warrant and arrested him.

"They picked up my brother and left for some unknown place in three vehicles," he added. Many officials of police and elite force were also accompanied them, he said. When contacted the SHO police station city expressed his ignorance about the incident.

However, sources said Dr Inam might have been arrested for his 'links' with a banned religious outfit. Meanwhile, an emergency meeting of Pakistan Medical Association (PMA), Attock on Thursday night condemned the incident. The meeting was presided over by Dr Khalid Saeed Khan.

Besides the office-bearers of the Association, a large number of doctors also attended the meeting. The participants expressed their concern over the action taken by the law-enforcement agencies.

In a press statement, the PMA general secretary, Attock district, Dr Ali Asgher, also expressed regrets over the reluctance of administration and police to disclose the whereabouts of the doctor.
