KARACHI, Jan 1: The police are making raids to arrest a Lyari police investigation wing official following the registration of an FIR against him and an associate of his under the Police Order.

The FIR was lodged against two police officials under sections 342 and 384 of the Pakistan Penal Code and sections 155 and 166 of the Police Order, while their superior officer was suspended and reverted by the city police chief after an inquiry against them in a case of illegal detention.

A cigarette container stolen from a factory in October was recovered by the Lyari police and the case transferred to the investigation wing. The investigation police picked up Mohammad Ali and kept him in illegal detention for 22 hours without any evidence against him.

The officials demanded Rs500,000 to set him free and he was released after paying Rs100,000. In December, he lodged a complaint with Capital City Police Officer Asad Ashraf Malick.

The CCPO assigned the inquiry to Lyari Town Police Officer Ali Mohsin, who found the charges valid. An FIR was lodged against Sub-Inspector Ansar and Assistant Sub-Inspector Shafiq of the investigation wing.

Inspector Sohail Faiz who, according to the inquiry, supervised the detention and the deal was suspended and reverted to the post of SI, a police spokesman said.
