DADU, Aug 30: Two minor girls died and another fell unconscious after taking pesticide in Karani village, Sehwan Taluka, on Thursday.

Basheran, 8, daughter of Chanesar Lashari; Ameerzadi, 6; and Zarina, 5, daughters of Jan Mohammad Lashari, were cutting grass in the field when they found a bottle of pesticide and drank the contents.

Basheeran and Ameerzadi died immediately. Zarina fell unconscious and was taken to a hospital.

DEMO: A large number of abadgars, led by Johi Taluka Abadgar Association President Ghulam Qadir Rind, staged a demonstration at the Johi Press Club on Friday to protest artificial shortage of water in 20 waterways of Johi branch.

Carrying banners and placards, they raised slogans against Johi irrigation SDO. They accused the irrigation officials of corruption and said not taking action against water theft.

Meanwhile, three teams of irrigation engineers raided Dadu Canal, Johi branch, and 10 waterways, finding 50 watercourses tampered with on Friday. The engineers sealed the watercourses under Irrigation Act.

They provided lists of 50 influential landlords to Dadu, Johi, Rukan, Khairpur Nathan Shah, Sita, Bhan Saeedabad, and Sehwan Sharif police stations for registration of cases.

The officials have written letters to police to lodge cases against three sub-engineers and seven Baildars of the department.
