KARACHI, Feb 6: Various workshops and activities connected with the World Social Forum will be held at the Arts Council from 3-8pm on Saturday (Feb 7). The activities have been organised as a follow-up to the World Social Forum held in Belem, Brazil, from Jan 27-Feb 1, 2009.

The main themes of the activities shall be “mobilisation against Zionist and imperialist aggression against unarmed Palestinian, Iraqi, Afghan and Pakistani people,” according to a press release. Events will also focus on the ‘Rights of indigenous people’, and will include activities under the overarching themes of “Globalisation and Militarism, Peace, de-militarisation, Freedom of the Media and Democracy”.

The activities will include symposia, poster and picture exhibitions, films, theatre and other cultural events, as well as the sale of books, films, music and souvenirs, all “in keeping with the spirit of the WSF Charter of Principles.”
