LAHORE, Oct 25: Sindh defeated NWFP by three runs on the opening day of the 10th National Baseball Championship at Iqbal Parks Sports Complex Thursday.

The match between Wapda and Police was suspended due to poor lights after both were tied at 18 runs each at the end of the seventh innings. This game will be replayed Friday from the start.

Earlier, Sindh scored 16 runs with Shakil Ahmad and Qambar Ali being the top scorers with four runs each. Atif Abbas added two runs. Nadeem Zaheer, Arshad Ali, Mubashir Sattar, Aamir Salim, Aamir Siddique and Khawar Shakoor chipped in with one run each.

NWFP in their innings collected 13 runs. Masood Ahmad scored four runs, including one home run. Kifayat Shah (3), Majid (2) were the other main contributors. Maqsood Ahmad, Mohammad Usman, Asim Ahmad and Mohammad Islam added one run each.

In the second match, Wapda with the help of three home-runs scored 18. Saqib Butt scored three runs with two home-runs. Rizwan Mahmood and Abid Mahmood also added three runs each.

Skipper Basit Murtaza scored two runs with one home-run while Rana Ajmal, Mohammad Asghar and Iftikhar Ahmad scored two runs each.

For Police, Mohammad Akhtar scored a home-run in his tally of two runs. However, Kamran Butt, Shahzad Anwar and captain Nasir Butt were the major scorers with three runs each. Latif Mughal, Hafiz Akhlaq and Mohammad Shabbir contributed two runs each and Muzaffar Alam added one run.
