ISLAMABAD, Jan 15: Chief of the Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani said on Thursday the Pakistan Army was fully prepared to meet any challenge.

In what appeared to be a tit-for-tat response to a statement by the Indian army chief that New Delhi was keeping all options open, General Kayani said at the 62nd Formation Commanders’ Conference that the threat could best be defeated through a comprehensive national effort.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations, General Kayani said he was satisfied with the efforts made by commanders for training and operational preparedness.

He reaffirmed that the spirit of sacrifice and high morale of troops were reassuring for the defence of the country.

The corps commanders, principal staff officers and formation commanders, who attended the conference, were given a comprehensive briefing on the prevailing security environment.
