LAHORE, Jan 3: Railways edged past newcomers Elba Pure Water in the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) League Group ‘B’ match at the Model Town Football Academy (MTFA) ground on Saturday.

It was an impressive debut for Elba who managed to restrict the two-time national champions to a 1-0 win.

The match displayed fine sportsmanship too with no card shown to the players of either side when Railways’ midfielder Mohammad Afzal was injured and carried off the field on a stretcher in the 14th minute.

Railways scored the winner in the 27th minute when substitute winger Umar Khan dashed into the right wing to cut the ball back which Elba’s stopper Saifullah and keeper Zubair failed to judge. Railways’ striker Zaheer Abbas was on hand to rifle the ball into the left corner.

The 1-0 score line at interval remained so till the final whistle.

The event resumes on Jan 12 after Ashura when SGP take on PPWD at Karachi and PAF face HEC at Peshawar.—Agencies
