HYDERABAD, Jan 3: Unit four of Jamshoro Thermal Power Station has been closed as its heater caught fire between the night of Friday-Saturday resulting in losses to the tune of millions of rupees. The power house has four units with a total power production capacity of 880mw.

Two units — one and two – are already lying closed and only unit No. 3 is functional which is producing 150 mw. Three units of Lakhra Power House, which have a production capacity of 150 mw, have also been lying closed for the last 20 days. Kotri Power House, which has a production capacity of 147 mw is producing only 28 mw.

Sources said that four units of Muzaffargarh Power Station, with a production capacity of 840 mw, are also lying closed. The central chairman of All Pakistan Powerhouses Union, while talking to Dawn on telephone termed the closure of so many power units simultaneously a conspiracy against the people’s government.

FINAL MERIT LIST: The director of admissions of the University of Sindh on Friday announced third final merit list of successful candidates who has sought admission to different disciplines in bachelors degree programme for 2009 session in the quota-oriented and general disciplines.

The university also announced second final merit list of successful candidates for admissions to various disciplines on reserved seats for children of the university employees, children of the teachers of affiliated colleges and disabled persons.

All the merit lists had been posted on the university’s website at www.usindh.edu.pk and displayed on notice boards of the directorate of admissions Jamshoro and Dr N.A. Baloch Model School Hyderabad.

The candidates had been advised to deposit admission fee through bank challan at Habib Bank Limited Jamshoro up to Jan 10.

DATE EXTENDED: The director of Sindh Development Studies Centre of the University of Sindh Prof Dr Abida Tahrani announced on Friday that the last date for admission to MSc Rural Development (external programme) at SDSC had been extended to Jan 10.

The candidates could obtain admission forms from prescribed bank branches or download them from the university’s website at www.usindh.edu.pk.
