ISLAMABAD, Jan 3: The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration Saturday decided to introduce solid waste disposal system in the rural areas of the capital.
The Deputy Commissioner Amer Ali Ahmed said that a model system was being placed at Madina Town and Muslim Town in the vicinity of Bharakahu.
Various officials of the ICT visited the sites to ensure implementation of the project. Waste containers in the area were being placed and sanitary workers had been engaged for this purpose, says a statement issued here on Saturday
Uniforms were issued to the sanitary workers and they would work under the supervision of the Union Council staff.
The sanitary workers would collect waste through a tractor trolley from the bins installed at various streets and dumped them at the central container placed at the UC Bharakahu office.
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) officials would remove the waste from the UC office for further disposal.
Efforts were also underway to start a similar system at Rawat and Sihala also.
The district administration aimed to replicate this model and establish such facilities across the rural areas of Islamabad. The administrators of the union councils had been instructed to ensure proper supervision of this waste disposal system.
APP ADDS: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to construct two new overhead bridges on Islamabad Highway to reduce the number of accidents and facilitate pedestrians.
The decision to this effect was taken by CDA Board in a meeting here on Saturday presided over by Chariman CDA, Tariq Mahmood Khan.
The construction of these bridges between Faizabad and Khana Pul will minimize the woes of the residents living on both sides of the Highway.
The CDA also decided that six more overhead pedestrian bridges will be constructed to facilitate the public.
The construction of these bridges will ensure smooth flow of traffic and help reduce the number of accidents, said a press release.
The authority will also set up complaint cells in all sectors for solution of sanitation problems. Complaints cells will be accessible to the residents.
Member Finance Saeed-ur-Rehman, Member Administration S.M. Farooqi, Member Engineering Tahir Shamshad, Member Estate Brig. (Retd) Asad Munir, Member Planning & Design Syed Tanvir Bukhari and Member Environment Mazhar Hussain were also present in the meeting.
