MULTAN, Jan 2: One person was killed and four others were injured seriously while one went missing when the earth of a well being dug up fell on them in Makhdoom Rasheed area here on Friday.

Labourer Aslam died on the spot while mason Aslam was still missing. Four labourers, Abdul Razzaq, Ghaus Bakhsh, Ghulam Muhammad and Zafar Iqbal, who were recovered alive, were stated to be in critical condition.

Reports said that labourer Zafar Iqbal fell into the well and Aslam and four other labourers climbed down to rescue him, but the soft surface could not sustain the jerk and a heap of mud fell on them.

The Rescue 1122 team, police and the area people launched rescue operation, pulled the labourers out of the mud and rushed them to Nishtar Hospital. The search for missing mason was under way till the filing of this report.

REMANDED: A local court granted three-day physical remand of three alleged human smugglers here on Friday. Accused Yaseen, Shabbir and Ajmal were arrested by FIA on the charge of taking Rs0.83 million from eight persons for sending them abroad.

INJURED: At least 35 passengers were injured when a truck, a police van and three buses collided on Indus Highway near Rajanpur on Friday.

Reports said that the fog and the leakage of lubricant from an oil-tanker on the road were stated to be the cause of accident. A Peshawar-bound bus coming from Karachi slipped off the road and overturned while two other buses, a truck and a police van smashed into it leaving 35 passengers injured.
