MULTAN, Oct 25: Development funds, which the Multan Municipal Corporation will allocate in the forthcoming budget in 58 union councils, appear to be insufficient keeping in view the requirement of the area.

Immediately after assuming charge, tehsil city Nazim Faisal Shaikh directed the union council Nazims to make an estimate of the budget required to meet the expenses. The estimate came up to Rs180 million.

The MMC reportedly collected Rs390 million by levying various taxes of which Rs312 million is likely to be spent on non-development areas, leaving only Rs78 million for the purpose.

Another important fact is that Rs300 million has been allocated for the salaries of the MMC employees.

An MMC official revealed former mayors appointed their kin and political workers in the department without observing any merit during the last two decades.

He said the MMC is now considering some proposals to enhance its earning. It had been suggested to collect tax from Wapda and PTC who were using the MMC land for installation of their poles, he concluded.

NADRA: Nadra has distributed 5.4 million identity card forms among people in 13 districts of Multan.

This was stated by Nadra regional director Col Fazal Mahmood in a press conference here on Thursday.

He said the department had received 1.82 million forms duly filled by the people while 88,800 cards had been prepared.

Forms would be available in 1050 union councils of Multan, he added.

The chief urged the people to cooperate with the authorities so that the campaign for providing computerized cards could be completed in time.
