KARACHI, Dec 30: Sindh Minister for Law and Criminal Prosecution Mohammed

Ayaz Soomro has said that with the approval of Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah 84 deputy district attorneys will be appointed on a contract basis for one year.

Chairing a meeting at his office on Tuesday, the minister pointed out that the recruitment committee’s chairman would be a solicitor while additional and deputy secretaries of law department would be members.

He said successful candidates would be appointed on a one-year contract at the salary of Rs20,000 per month.

The minister said that Federal Law Minister Farooq H. Naek had summoned an important meeting of all the provincial law ministers and secretaries in Islamabad on January 2, 2009 in which matters relating to evening courts and women courts were expected to come under consideration.

Mr Soomro said the law department had provided every district criminal prosecution officer an amount of Rs500,000 for their office furniture and other paraphernalia, but many of them allegedly committed irregularities in use of funds.

He said a committee was formed to inquire into such cases. After the receipt of its report, action would be taken against officers found guilty of having committed irregularities.—APP
