GILGIT, Dec 29: District Bar Association (DBA) Gilgit has condemned killing of five persons, including a senior government official.

An emergency meeting of the bar chaired by GBA president advocate Munir Ahmed unanimously expressed grief and sorrow over the incident. It also passed a resolution demanding the administration to trace the culprits who were behind the act and bring them to justice. The meeting appealed to the people to forge unity among their ranks to foil nefarious designs of the vested interests.

Meanwhile, a shutter down strike was observed in Chillas city and hundreds of people took to the streets and condemned the killing in Gilgit the other day.

The protest began at Golden Peak Chowk which turned into a public meeting. Local religious leaders speaking on the occasion urged the government to investigate into the matter and track down the culprits.

They warned the government to continue the strike and protest if the accused were not arrested. The markets remained closed and traffic was thin on the roads.—Correspondent
