KARACHI, Dec 28: Pakistan Public Works Department (PPWD) beat Police 2-1 as the league phase of the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) departmental event kicked off here at the Baloch Mujahid Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The match remained barren at interval after both teams missed out on several good opportunities.
Police also lost a player when their skipper Nida Mohammad was shown the red card and sent off the field in the 59th minute.
First blood was finally drawn by PPWD’s skipper and striker Shah Nawaz Soomer on solo attempt.
Nawaz dashed through the middle to steer the ball past Police’s goalie Kabir in the 60th minute.
Five minutes later winger Umar Bakhsh added another to make the score 2-0, making his coach Tariq Umar extremely happy.
Police could only score a consolation goal in the 67th minute through their striker Rasheed Ahmed, who sliced the long ball past the onrushing PPWD goalkeeper Sajid.
The match was shifted from the Peoples Sports Complex at the last minute on PPWD’s request.
Matches resume on Tuesday after a day’s gap when Sindh Government Press take on Police at 3.00pm at the same venue.
