Inayatullah steers team to victory

LAHORE, Dec 28: PIA, National Bank (NBP) and Army reached the semi-finals of NBP Gold Cup hockey tournament at National Hockey Stadium on Sunday.

Due to heavy fog in the city, the fourth quarter-final match between Habib Bank Limited (HBL) and Port Qasim could not be played and will now be held on Monday. Both semi-finals will be played on Tuesday and final on Wednesday.

A hat-trick by Inayatullah helped PIA beat Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) 4-1. At half time the winners were leading comfortably 3-0. Shafqat Rasool scored in the 12th minute while Innayat scored in the 18th, 26th and 46th minute.

The only goal from Pakistan Steel Mills came through their captain Sarfraz Ahmad in the 44th minute.

NBP outplayed Navy 5-2, after earning 4-1 lead at half-time. Tariq Aziz, Akhtar Ali, Haseem Khan, Adnan Maqsood and Mohammad Attique scored a goal each in the 5th, 10th, 24th, 33rd and 67th minutes, respectively. Abdul Manan and Rao Nadeem scored one each for Navy in the 14th and 64th minute.

Army beat Wapda 4-1, after taking a slim 1-0 lead in the first half. Akhtar Gul, Mohammad Arshad, Kashif and Mohammad Afzal struck a goal each in the 25th, 54th, 57th and 70th minutes.

The solitary goal for Wapda was slammed by captain Waqas Sharif in the 60th minute.
