ISLAMABAD, Dec 28: Various political leaders and a civil society organisation have condemned the Buner blast that killed at least 30 persons at a polling station on Sunday.

In separate messages issued by Minister for Defence Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Sherry Rahman, Speaker National Assembly Dr Fehmida Mirza and Deputy Speaker Faisal Karim Kundi Free and the Fair Election Network, they expressed their grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives in the attack and termed it an inhumane act.

The ministers said the government would take all measures needed to eliminate terrorism and extremism from the country.

They expressed their condolence and sympathies with the bereaved families of the victims

Ms Rehman in her message said the attack was an attempt to sabotage the electoral process in Buner and prevent people from exercising their right of franchise.

She said terrorists were playing with the lives of the innocent citizens and trying to destabilise the democratic government in the country but, she added, the perpetrators of such crime would never succeed in their nefarious designs. —Agencies
