HYDERABAD, Dec 20: A fire superintendent of the city fire brigade died in a Karachi hospital on Saturday.

Inayatullah Khan had received 60 per cent burn injuries while performing his duty at Narejani railway crossing where an oil tanker exploded after being hit by Hyderabad-bound Shah Latif Express on Friday.

He was taken to the Civil Hospital’s burn wards from where he was shifted to a private hospital in Karachi as his condition was critical.

He was resident of Latifabad-10 and would be laid to rest in a local graveyard.

Hyderabad District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil visited his residence and offered condolences with the bereaved family.

Meanwhile, the condition of three other critically injured including Zahid, Shahzad and Mushtaq remained stable, according to medical superintendent of civil hospital Dr. Jabbar Sheikh. Others were discharged after first aid.

Normal railway traffic operation, which was already hit by winter rains, was badly hit by Friday evening incident. Railway officials had to take precautions at the site while allowing trains for up and down country at the particular site where rescue repair work had started after oil tanker’s explosion.

According to Karachi divisional railway superintendent Mir Mohammad Khaskheli, the tracks of Mirpurkhas and down country have been repaired and normal operation of rail traffic has been resumed.

The railway crossing has also been opened for traffic. The crossing is being used by commuters and other heavy traffic because of construction of flyover at Channel Mori by district government.

Tandojam police has lodged a case against unidentified driver of the trailer which has been completely burnt. The case is lodged on the complaint of guard of Shah Latif Express, R.K. Bachani, who claimed that driver of the trailer broke the chain of railway crossing and came on the track.

He said that though emergency brakes were applied but still the tanker was hit by the train and then it exploded after one hour.
