One killed as roof collapses

LAHORE, Dec 19: A man lost his life in a roof collapse incident in Harbanspura on Friday.

Muhammad Pervez along with a labourer, Anwar, was busy fixing a shed on the roof of his three-storey house in Kotli Pir Abdul Rahman when it caved in. They fell on the second floor and were shifted to hospital where Pervez succumbed to his injuries. The condition of Anwar was stated to be critical.

Pervez had returned from Dubai a couple of months ago.

GANGS BUSTED: Police claimed to have busted two gangs of robbers and arrested their seven members.

They confessed to 50 incidents of robbery and dacoity in the city.

Those arrested are Ashraf, Adnan, Ahmed, Asad, Irfan, Asif and Sabir.

SSP Operations Shafiq Ahmed announced reward for the raiding team.

Forensic lab: A state-of-the-art forensic laboratory will be set up in Punjab at a cost of Rs2 billion to make the investigation system on scientific lines.

Inspector General of Punjab Police Shaukat Javed said this while giving a briefing to a delegation, headed by Los Angeles County police chief Sheriff Leroy D Baca, here on Friday.

The IG said a comprehensive policy had been evolved to impart professional training to police employees to combat terrorism and heinous crimes. Modern ways of information technology had also been adopted to put the investigation system on modern lines.

A data centre had been set up in the central police office where the record of criminals involved in heinous crimes was being collected.

Sheriff Leroy D Baca said the US would extend cooperation to the Punjab police to enhance professional capability of the force.
