LAHORE, Dec 17: Four matches were decided on the opening day of the National Table Tennis championships’ team event at Wapda Sports Complex on Wednesday.

In the first match, defending champions Wapda outclassed NWFP 3-0 with Asim Qureshi defeating Sajid Mughal in the first singles 11-6, 11-2, 11-6. While Ali Faisal doubled the lead, overpowering Mohammad Ramzan 13-11, 11-6, 11-1, Saleem Abbas sealed the fate of the match after notching up 11-2, 11-9, 11-8 win against Rameez Khan.

In other matches, Higher Education Commission, Punjab-B and Islamabad also scored straight ways defeat over Sindh, Pak PWD and NWFP.

The competitions will be held in men’s and women’s team events and individual events. Four provinces have been allowed to enter the two teams each in the both team events. While Islamabad, HEC, Habib Bank Limited, PAK WAPDA, PAK PWD, Railways and Army have been allowed to field one team each.
