CII clarifies report

Published December 18, 2008

ISLAMABAD, Dec 17: The Council of Islamic Ideology issued a clarification on Wednesday about a report on the term, gender equality, saying the recommendations had been made by the previous council in 2003.

The clarifications said: “The news item in daily Dawn on 17th December 2008 relating to the gender equality and National Commission on the Status of Women Ordinance, 2000, appearing as recommendation of the current Council of Islamic Ideology has caused misunderstanding and has damaged the image of the council. It must be clarified that this news item relates to a recommendation made in 2003 by a previous council. It has reported in the summary of CII reports on recommendations made by previous Councils since 1962.”

The report has been submitted recently to the federal minister of parliamentary affairs for processing the recommendations for consideration of parliament.
