QUETTA, Dec 13: Balochistan’s Inspector General of Police Asif Nawaz Warraich has said the relief operation of the Jamaatud Dawa has been stopped in the earthquake-hit areas of Ziarat.
Talking to reporters here on Saturday, he said relief goods in Dawa’s relief camps in the Kawas area had been taken into custody and an office of the organisation in Quetta had been sealed. The IG denied the reports that any Dawa activist was arrested in the province.
However, he added that some members of the organisation whose names were provided by the federal interior ministry had been put under surveillance.
He said a list of 26 people had been given to the Balochistan police for the purpose.
The IG said all possible steps would be taken to maintain peace during Muharram and a high-level meeting would soon be held for finalising arrangements during the month.
Protest held
Jamaatud Dawa activists staged a demonstration here on Saturday against imposition of ban on organization’s activities and arrest of its workers.
The protesters raised slogans against the United States and India and demanded immediate lifting of the ban.
Addressing protesters, Mohammad Amin, Hafiz Abdul Jabbar and Dr Tariq said that the Dawa was a non-violent organisation, involving only in relief works.
They said the organisation played a vital role in relief activities for earthquake and flood-affected people in different parts of the country.
They criticised the government for arresting dozens of Dawa activists and said action against the organisation had been taken to please Americans and Indians.
