LAHORE, Dec 11: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif paid surprise visits to various Walled City localities and inspected development projects and situation of hospitals on Thursday.

Going round various wards of Syed Mitha Hospital, he expressed his anger at poor sanitation and arrangements at the medical facility and sought within 24 hours a report about availability of medicines there.

He also visited Government District Hospital, Kot Khwaja Saeed before inspecting various development schemes in Misri Shah.

The CM also chaired a meeting to review performance of northern Lahore hospitals and provision of better medical facilities there.

He directed re-organisation of teaching hospitals’ boards of governors and audit of the Mayo and Services by reputed firms.

To make the Mayo a model hospital, he sought constitution of two sub-committees.

Dissatisfied with the performance of Syed Mitha, Kot Khwaja Saeed and Nawaz Sharif hospitals, he formed a high-level committee and directed it to present its report within 72 hours.

He wondered that not a single person was operated upon by Syed Mitha medical staff for the last many months though machinery worth millions of rupees had been provided to it for the purpose while in Kot Khwaja Saeed Hospital no patient was admitted during this period.

Both the sub-committees entrusted with the task of making the Mayo a model hospital were issued Rs100 million each to repair the building, restore its road network and purchase the necessary medical equipment.

Mr Sharif announced that under a master plan the hospital would be made an autonomous institution after success of the short-term measures. — Staff Reporter
