PESHAWAR, Dec 7: The Peshawar Medical College will conduct a survey to ascertain the basic needs of inmates and analyse situation at Kacha Garhi camp, housing the internally displaced people of Bajuar and Mohmand agencies.

“We are planning to start a survey after Eidul Azha to identify needs of inmates and pinpoint the number of skilled and unskilled labourers at the camp,” announced Prof Najibul Haq, principal of Peshawar Medical College (PMC), on Sunday.

Kacha Garhi is home to about 6,000 families displaced by the military operation in the wake of soaring militancy in Bajuar and Mohmand tribal areas.

“Once the exercise is completed then efforts would put in to devise support mechanism for the internally displaced people which would enable us as well as other interested quarters for further rationalising their respective support mechanisms for the IDPs,” he said.

Speaking at the Eid Package ceremony, organised by Social Welfare Society (SWS) PMC at the camp, he said that there were still hundreds of people whose services could be utilised. By doing so, the government would know the work capacity of the camp’s inmates, he added.

Prof Najib said that the study would be conducted by SWS in collaboration with Community Medicine and Research and Development Departments of the college that would give an idea about the potential of the camp’s dwellers.

“The people and the government could access the skilled persons of the camp for hiring their services because they desperately need jobs,” he added. Furthermore, the survey would identify the medical and general needs of the population that could help the government as well as private bodies engaged in relief activities.

Prof Najib lauded students of the college who worked hard to get donations for the camp. He also paid tribute to the camp administration for friendly support and media for encouraging the young volunteers by covering the activity.
