NEW DELHI, Dec 5: Lalit Modi, Vice President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), while arguing that there is no comparison between the security situations of India and Pakistan, says only the Indian government can comment on the impending tour of Pakistan.

Modi, who is also the Indian Premier League (IPL) chief, refused to draw a parallel between the security situation of India and that of Pakistan.

“These are different situations altogether. The situation in Pakistan is a lot different to the situation we have here on the streets in India,” Modi claimed on Friday. “I don’t see us going that [Pakistan] way at all.”

He also refused to add any fuel to speculation that the government of India may not grant green signal to the tour of Pakistan.

“This is something which is outside the BCCI domain and something that lies with the government of India,” he expressed.

“Only the government can comment on it and we shouldn’t speculate which way they will go. We will just have to wait and see what they say. At the end of the day, we have to abide by what the government says,” Modi added.

However, irrespective of the fate of Pakistan tour, relations between the BCCI and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) would remain unaffected, he felt.

“It is a government-to-government issue. I don’t think it would affect our relations [with PCB]. We play cricket with each other. I’m sure we’ll continue to play cricket with each other going forward,” the Indian official added.—Agencies
