LAHORE, Dec 4: The Child Protection Welfare Bureau on Thursday distributed $369,500 among 280 child jockeys under the UAE compensation programme.

Bureau Chairperson Dr Faiza Asghar presented the cheques to the children at the bureau office. Of these children, 247 have been paid under the basic compensation claims and the remaining for physical injuries.

The bureau started work on the UAE compensation project in December last year and so far it has secured compensation for 320 children. The minimum amount of compensation paid to the children is $1,000 and maximum $21,000.

Ms Asghar said the bureau would continue receiving applications for compensation till Dec 31 and would submit these applications to the administrative board for approval. She thanked the UAE government for compensating the child jockeys.
