UNITED NATIONS, Dec 3: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday and discussed with him the situation in South Asia following last week’s terrorist attacks in Mumbai.

According to the secretary-general’s spokesperson Michelle Montas, the Pakistani leader assured Mr Ban that his country would fully cooperate in the investigation of the terror attacks.

The UN chief also discussed the progress on Pakistan’s request for a UN probe into the assassination of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, spokesperson Montas told reporters while responding to questions.

The secretary-general’s conversation with Mr Zardari was a follow-up of his phone call to Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday. After his call, Mr Ban said he and Mr Singh agreed it was critical to bring the perpetrators of the attacks to justice.
