KARACHI: Schools, colleges reopen

Published December 3, 2008

KARACHI, Dec 2: All public and private schools and colleges will re-open on Wednesday after remaining closed for two days in the wake of ethnic violence that had erupted in the city on Saturday afternoon.

Sindh Education Secretary Rizwan Memon, when contacted by Dawn, said that all public and private schools and colleges would re-open on Wednesday as the city’s law and order situation had improved and public transport had re-appeared on roads.

The University of Karachi has already announced postponement of papers of all degree classes (BA, BSc and BCom) examinations, MBBS first professional (Part-A) and the varsity’s semester exams, including evening classes exams, which were scheduled for Wednesday.

However, the university’s examination department on Tuesday failed to notify the names of 10 examination centres for degree classes’ exams which were to be shifted from different colleges to the university premises though the exams were scheduled to resume on Thursday.

The varsity administration in its Monday meeting had decided to shift the exam centres from colleges to the campus on receiving a number of complaints from parents of the students appearing in the exams. The candidates and their parents had complained that the exam centres had been set up in far-flung areas.
