GHALANAI, Dec 1: A jirga of the Haleemzai tribe held here on Monday decided to extend cooperation to the government in flushing out militants from the Mohmand Agency.

Besides 60 elders of three clans of the Haleemzai tribe, including Hamzakhel, Wali Beg and Kadikhel, political officials also attended the jirga.

A member of the jirga told Dawn that the political authorities had given a list of 35 suspects to the tribal elders demanding their arrest and handing over to the political administration in two days. The jirga assured the political administration that the wanted persons would surrender during the given time.

Mohmand’s assistant political agent Seyed Ahmed Jan said a list of 10 wanted people had also been handed over to Kamali Haleezai, who would be bound to handover the suspects in two days.

He urged other tribes of the Mohmand Agency to come forward and arrange more jirgas to root out militancy from the region.

Meanwhile, the main Peshawar-Bajaur road remained open for all kinds of traffic from 9am to 4pm. Residents thronged Mian Mandi, Yakaghund, and Ghalanai bazaars to purchase essential items.
