GHALANAI, Nov 29: Security forces demolished houses of two tribesmen in Mainzai area of Mohmand tribal region on Saturday on charges of providing shelter to militants.

Officials said that authorities had accused two tribesmen identified as Suleman and Liaqat of providing shelter to militants in the area.

They said that the tribesmen were already warned against sheltering militants.

Troops cordoned off the area and demolished houses of the tribesmen with bulldozers. One of them, Suleman was arrested before demolishing his house. Authorities had earlier demolished the house of Suleman’s father-in-law.

Security forces also arrested three other tribesmen for violating curfew. Earlier helicopters attacked a basic health unit in Sagai area on suspension that militants had been using the building as shelter. No casualty was reported.

Meanwhile, elders of Halemzai tribe handed over two persons under the collective responsibility clause of the Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR) to political administration in Ghalanai on Saturday.

Political administration had handed over a list of 20 tribesmen to the jirga to surrender them under the FCR. Assistant Political Agent Syed Ahmad Jan asked the elders to surrender the remaining 18 tribesmen also.

He said that those people were wanted by the administration for their involvement in attacks on security forces personnel and various checkposts in the area. The jirga will meet in Ghalanai on Monday to discuss the situation.
