LAHORE, Nov 28: Five proclaimed offenders were killed in an ‘encounter’ with police in Nishtar Town here on Friday.

The Sadar division CIA police claimed that Saeed Ahmad alias Jamil, Asif Mahmood, Muhammad Azam alias Haji, Muhammad Boota and Mumtaz Husain, carrying a headmoney of Rs2.5 million, were involved in at least 30 incidents of dacoity-cum-murder, kidnap for ransom and other heinous crimes.

According to a handout, a CIA team headed by DSPs Atif Hayat and Farooq raided a house in Glaxo Town, Nishtar Colony, on an information about the presence of the POs there.

“The accused opened fire on the police. When police returned the fire, the five criminals were killed on the spot,” the handout claimed.

A Kalashnikov, four magazines, two pistols, four magazines and three police uniforms had been recovered from the crime scene.

The handout said the criminals used to commit crime in police uniform. On Aug 12, one of their accomplices, Shah, was injured in an encounter with police and subsequently died.

The diseased had committed crimes in the Factory Area of Sheikhupura district, Sattokatla, Nawankot, Kot Lakhpat, Sabzazar, Masti Gate, Lytton Road, Liaquatabad, Model Town, Ichhra, Faisal Town, Green Town, Sanda, Township, North Cantonment, Ghalla Mandi, Sahiwal, Johar Town, Chhung areas.

They, in police uniform, had kidnapped 17-year-old Abbas and demanded Rs30 million from his family and latter sold him in Northern Area for Rs1 million six months ago.

Capital City Police Officer Pervez Rathore has announced cash prizes and commendatory certificates for the raiding team.
