SRINAGAR, Oct 6: Five Indian soldiers were among 27 people killed in occupied Kashmir on Saturday, a police spokesman said.

Four of the five Indian army soldiers were killed — three on the spot — when their vehicle ran over an explosive planted on the road in Devsar, near Kulgam township.

Five soldiers were injured, four of them seriously, in the blast, the spokesman said.

Two Mujahideen were killed in Zakura, on the outskirts of Srinagar, in an encounter with Indian forces, the spokesman claimed.

In Anantnag district, one person was killed and 12 injured when a grenade hurled by freedom fighters at an Indian force patrol missed its target and exploded at a bus stand, the spokesman said.

In another incident, a policeman was shot dead at Hari Singh street, close to occupied Kashmir’s legislature in Srinagar, the scene of a suicide attack on Monday which killed 38 people.

Indian forces shot dead a member of the Lashkar-i-Taiba at Jagarpora village, 85 kilometres north of Srinagar, the spokesman said.—AFP
