MINGORA, Nov 24: A woman councillor and another local PPP leader and 15 militants were killed in acts of violence and clashes in Swat valley on Monday.

Bakht Zaiba was gunned down in Malukabad area near Mingora town while Siraj-ul-Haq was killed in Aligrama area of Kabal.

Mr Siraj was going to mosque for Fajr prayers when suspected militants opened fire, killing him on the spot.

Ms Zaiba’s son alleged that two people, who had a dispute with the family, came to his house in the morning. As the mother opened the door, they shot her dead.

According to Swat Media Centre, 15 militants were killed and six others injured and six vehicles were destroyed when security forces attacked Taliban hideouts in Matta, Charbagh and Khwazakhela tehsils.

A military spokesman said 11 militants were killed and several others injured in Mangaltan area of Charbagh tehsil after helicopter gunships and artillery shelled a gang of militants. Five vehicles of the militants were destroyed in the attack.

Security forces killed two Taliban and injured four others in Gashkor area of Khwazakhela. Two militants were killed and four injured in Chuprial area of tehsil Matta.
