UMERKOT, Nov 24: The Umerkot Taluka Council on the complaints of irregularities cancelled work orders of some development schemes on Monday.

Kaplore union council nazim Mr Rasheed moved a resolution, stating that he had been ignored in inviting tender notice of development works in his area.

Other members of the council supported Mr Rasheed’s stand and demanded postponement of the tender process and cancellation of work orders till the approval of all the schemes by the council.

They said that the publication of tender notices without consultation of the taluka council had undermined the supremacy of the council.

Sajan, Haji Nohri and Herchand alleged that irregularities had been committed in development schemes and excessive payments made to contractors on fake documentation.

The taluka council took notice for the absence of the taluka municipal administration officers from its three consecutive sessions.

Haresh, Mohammad Rahim and Pirdan Charan said that according to the Sindh Local Government Ordinance, finance department of the TMA was bound to present details of income and expenditure before the council but the TMA officials had failed to do so.

The convener, in his ruling, directed the taluka officer infrastructure to appear before the council and clear his position.
