ISLAMABAD, Nov 23: A man was detained for a few hours after he tried to cross the Constitution Avenue moments before the motorcade of the prime minister passed on the road Saturday night, sources told Dawn on Sunday.

Police personnel deployed on the VVIP route duty spotted the man carrying a bundle of woods trying to cross the road. They whistled him to stop but the warning failed to draw his attention and he reached in the middle of the road. The security personnel brought him back to the roadside and took him into custody.

Later, he was handed over to the Secretariat police. The man identified himself as Mohammad Ilyas, a resident of Labour Colony located behind the presidency. He said he was going home after collecting woods and was not aware of the VVIP movement.

After a few hours at the police station, he was released on the guarantee of his father who works as a gardener with a senior government official.
