ISLAMABAD, May 11: Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation is all set to add another four FM 101 channels to its array of popular digital entertainment outfits.

The new computer-based stations have already started airing their test transmission in Hyderabad, Peshawar, Quetta and Sialkot.

“We are all set to bring entertainment to people in these four cities and deciding about the date of their formal launch,” the PBC director-general, Salim Gul Sheikh, told the agency here on Saturday.

Presently, the PBC’s four FM 101 stations in Faisalabad, Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore are running profitably and the corporation is planning to introduce four FM 101 channels each year, he said.

“The FM 101 stations have been a success both financially and in terms of providing entertainment to the new generation.”

The listeners of FM channels range from students to housewives and people from almost all walks of life.

The entertainment is finely interspersed with public awareness announcements, up-to-the-minute information on important issues and live debates on a variety of social issues.

Salim Gul referred to the feedback from listeners of recently-launched Faisalabad channel and said it bespeaks of the growing popularity of FM 101 transmission, particularly among the youth.

Initially, the new channels will broadcast eight hour transmission which will be expanded to 22 hours gradually.—APP
