Anti-polio arrangements

KASUR, Nov 21: The district administration has finalised arrangements to launch national campaign to administer anti-polio vaccine drops to children below the age of five years from Nov 24.

This was disclosed by District Coordination Officer (DCO) Abdul Jabbar Shaheen while chairing a meeting to review the arrangements here on Friday. Executive district officers of health and education and other officials also the meeting.

The DCO said that police teams would be deployed to keep security during the campaign. He said that he would himself monitor the campaign and negligent officials would be taken to task. He vowed to make the district polio-free.

The district government has also arranged a walk here on Saturday (today) to raise awareness about the vaccination campaign.

ARRESTED: The police on Friday claimed to have arrested two proclaimed offenders (POs) during a crackdown.

Talking to reporters, District Police Officer Rao Abdul Kareem said that the Raiwind Sadar police arrested PO Zaheer Ahmed, the ringleader of Hajveri gang, after a brief shootout and seized unlicenced weapons from him.

Zaheer was wanted in 31 cases of kidnap for ransom, extortion, murder and dacoity and the Punjab government had declared Rs700,000 his head money.

The Kasur Sadar police arrested PO Bohra, who was wanted in eight different crimes registered with different police stations of the district with Rs200,000 head money.
