LAHORE, Nov 19: Rank outsider four-year-old bay colt Brave Heart put up a smashing performance when registering victory in the midweek Lahore Gymkhana races’ feature event during the midweek Lahore Gymkhana races at the Racecourse on Wednesday.

Ridden by the riding boy Majid Ali and trained by Mohammad Siddique, Brave Heart beat the raging favourite filly Nayab by one and a quarter of a length to lead all the way home.

The bay horse Extravagant finished third after being nosed out by Nayab while Little Princess completed the frame, a distance further away.

The feature event was contested by nine runners and by virtue of her track work and blood line, the three-year-old filly Nayab, a progeny of Bedouin Invader-out-of-Always Early, was installed at a firm 10-to-100 favourite in this seventh and last race of the day. But she failed to live up to her star rating.

A race earlier, the long shot four-year-old chestnut filly Pretty Girl proved too pretty for the owner to win the supporting event. She beat Credit Card by two and a half lengths. Bird Fly and Fakhar-e-Sialkot completed the board among the 13 runners.

The handling of the blue-roan filly Fakhar-e-Sialkot by riding boy Imran Pervez left much to be desired. First he missed the jump out and then he had to travel a long way outside the frontrunners to hardly managed the fourth position.

Chestnut horse Sun Ray defied the heavy impost of nine stones and four pounds in weight while winning the supporting event. He beat bay colt Bashayeash Prince by over a length. The even money favourite High Quality finished third with Murad King fourth.

The 60-to-100 favourite Green Desert was an easy winner in the fourth race to make it two in a row. Silent Assassin finished second with Best Owner and Sana My Love, third and fourth, respectively.

The riding boy Majid Ali and trainer Mohammad Afzal highlighted the day’s proceedings, bringing home a brace of winners each. Majid partnered Sohna Murad in the second race and Brave Heart in the feature and last race. Mohammad Afzal sent out Sohna Murad and Green Desert in the second and fourth race.

Three favourites — Sohna Murad (2nd race), Alpha Juliet (3rd race) and Green Desert (4th race) — obliged the favourite backers while the other events were bagged by long shots.
