‘Gender reform action plan soon’

Published November 9, 2008

PESHAWAR, Nov 8: NWFP Minister for Social Welfare Sitara Ayaz has said a gender reform action plan will be launched soon to empower women in the society.

Speaking a meeting of the nursing staff of the Hayatabad Medical Complex here on Saturday, she said the government was making efforts to give due status to women attached with the profession of nursing.

She said women of the NWFP had always played a positive role in different fields and their work was acknowledged at national as well as international level. She said 10 per cent quota had been reserved for womenfolk in government jobs. A special bus service for women would be launched next month in the provincial capital, she added.

Ms Sitara said work on the gender reform action plan was in progress and steps were being taken to eliminate gender discrimination in the society.
